First Batch of Dr. Bawumia Campaign Team Appointments Announced; Very Strong Team -Check Out Names

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has appointed the first of a series of top appointments to oversee the campaign to elect the Vice President as New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer.

Sammi Awuku, former National Organiser of the NPP and current Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), will oversee the campaign.

Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited (STC) and a former Information Minister, is slated to take over as Director of Communication, aided by a three-man staff.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development at the Presidency, Yaw Adomako Baafi, former Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party, and Dr. Gideon Boako, the Vice President’s spokesperson since 2017, are among the three.

Nana Ayew Afriyie, MP, is expected to continue to lead the parliamentary caucus’ support for the Vice President.

A second round of appointments is planned, with many women on the list.

Other names to be announced include Frederick Opare-Ansah, former Suhum MP, and Nii Adjei Sowah, former Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive.

This follows the announcement by the New Patriotic Party that its super delegates conference will be held at the regional level. The team is anticipated to put procedures in place to help the Vice President win.

This season will be contested regionally as part of efforts to reduce the number of contestants to five for the main competition in November 2023.

“The party has taken a firm decision with respect to the presidential primaries, where we are going to hold it and also one or two issues that came up. We have been able to resolve it” General Secretary Justin Kodua announced.
