The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has revealed that this year’s West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be written in August.
This was made by WAEC’s head of public issues, Demianus Ojijeogu, on their authority Nigeria Twitter handle on Friday, April 9.
The assessments will begin in August and end in September and giving a justification that date change considering the way that the test is ordinarily taken between May/June, he showed that the assessment couldn’t hold during the typical May/June period in view of the interruption to the school schedule brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He further added that a global schedule for the August 16 to September 30 test will be delivered at the appropriate time.

Days ago, the agency officially made it known that the 2021 results for private candidates who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), First Series have been released.
Mr. Patrick Areghan, Head of the Nigeria National Office, WAEC engaged reporters and made the submission that the examination was mainly conducted to help candidates who are seeking admission to tertiary institutions to meet admission deadlines.
“The investigation of the insights of the presentation of up-and-comers shows that out of the Seven Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty-Nine (7,289) competitors that sat the assessment:
2,000 Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight (2,938) competitors addressing 40.31 percent got credit or more in at least any five subjects (with or without English Language and additionally Mathematics; out of which One Thousand Three Hundred and Ninety-Six (1,396) were male and One Thousand 500 and Forty-Two (1,542) were female up-and-comers, addressing 47.52%and 52.48 % individually;
2,000 One Hundred and Ninety-Five (2,195) applicants addressing 30.11 percent got credits or more in at least five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Of this number, One Thousand and Seventy-Four (1,074) for example 48.93 percent were male up-and-comers, while One Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-One (1,121) for example 51.07 percent were female competitors. The level of applicants in this classification in the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019 and 2020, that is, the individuals who acquired credit or more in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, were 26.08 percent and 32.23 percent separately. Consequently, there is a negligible decline of 2.12 percent in execution in this respects
