Online users have been cracking up at a video of a recently constructed bridge collapsing under a delegation of officials who were commissioning it.
Because politicians love to take petty credit for every small amenity they give for taxpayers whose money funded it, many social media users could relate to the regrettable but equally cheek-hurting occurrence that reportedly occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A woman who was a member of the delegation is seen holding a pair of scissors to cut the red ribbon tied to either side of the bridge’s rails as the authorities stand on the bridge in preparation to unveil it.
Interestingly, as if the red ribbon were the only thing keeping the entire bridge suspended in the air, as soon as the woman cut it, the whole thing collapsed, sending everyone frantically grasping at anything to keep from plunging into the ditch beneath the bridge.
In the footage, soldiers who are thought to have been the dignitaries’ guards are seen assisting in their rescue as onlookers cry.
Another aspect of the perilous situation that drew the attention of social media users was how some witnesses acted quickly to save only the woman while everyone else was in a panic and battling for their lives.
So, is it not forgiveable? Women are supposedly among society’s most vulnerable people and should be safeguarded.
It is likely that the contractor should consider all of the effort, time, and money invested in the work a poor investment if he has not yet been paid for building the bridge.
