Former Chief of Staff in President Kuffuor’s government, Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani has urged president Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency to relive Cabinet Ministers who have Presidential ambitions and openly showing same from their post.
According to him, it is only fair and proper to resign so the president can put someone in your place if your concentration is on being a president to working as a cabinet minster, Mr. Mpiani stated.
Mr. Mpiani further argued that, it was not wrong for anyone to be nursing presidential ambition but in a government where deputy ministers have not been appointed yet, it means everything rest on the shoulders on the Ministers and in his very inappropriate to be seeing the kinds of things we are seeing now.
He added if you cannot concentrate on the assignment given you by the President and you are only nursing a Presidential ambition at this time, then it is fair and proper you resign.
Speaking to Joy Midday News today Friday, 19th March, 2021, the former Chief of Staff said, the current trend is worrying especially where all the party seems to be thinking about now, is who succeeds the president is not appropriate at this time at all.
Further he said, if the trend doesn’t stop then he is urging the president to relive such ministers of their post so that they can concentrate on their ambitions while the President gets other people to help his government to succeed.
This issue has come about because in recent times, a lot of fliers, posters, cups, tee-shirts and other paraphernalia have been seen on social media bearing the names of the current Vice president, Alhaji Dr. Mahmoudu Bawumia, the Trade Minister, Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyremanteng, and recently the Agric Minister, Dr. Owuse Afriyie Akoto which purports to be advertising their Presidential intentions.
The latter on the other hand has come to openly explain that the rumours going round that he had visited some party faithfuls making known his Presidential intentions aren’t true.
Grapevine information as said on Joy News indicates that, President Akufo-Addo has openly informed all his cabinet ministers who have Presidential ambition and have openly started campaigning to resign.
Additionally, Joy Midday News added that, the President Akufo-Addo also told them that with the kinds of things going on social media, even if it isn’t on their express instructions, then, they must call on such people who are doing those things on their behalf to stop.
Will the president heed to Mr. Mpiani’s advise, only time will tell.
