Stakeholders have argued for a higher pass standard for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination. The advocacy gained momentum today with the introduction of many studies looking into the National Teaching Council’s (NTC) activities. The Alisa Hotel in Accra hosted the study project’s debut.

promoting a higher pass mark
The program, which was live-streamed on Facebook, captured the stakeholders discussing the subject of the minimum score required for candidates to become qualified teachers. It was reportedly revealed in a response that the minister of education (whether a deputy or substantive minister was not indicated) voiced similar reservations.
The question of the program’s pass mark was originally brought up by David Prah, the Deputy Director General for TVET services.
He viewed a passing grade of 50% as being equivalent to a teacher’s license deficiency of 50%. and suggested using 70% as the cutoff. He spoke.
“Am happy our union leaders are here. The pass rate and the percentage for passing, I believe is a suspect and questionable. 50% for a teacher to step in a classroom, meaning that he has 50% deficit. Am a competency-based trainee, specialist. I believe you have achieved or yet to achieve. 50% deficit to enter classroom is very disastrous. We need to revise it.”
However, the resource who was diplomatic said that the minister had brought up the matter earlier. And that they will need to talk about in order to decide how to proceed.
