Ministry of Finance Issues Strong Statement On Domestic Debt Exchange Programme -DETAILS
It has been said by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta that there won’t be another round of domestic debt restructuring.
An earlier story said that the minister alluded to a potential debt restructuring aimed at pension funds while delivering a speech at the present IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings.
He claims that the interpretation of his statement—that there will be a second round of DDEP—was incorrect.
“We are not planning a second round of the domestic debt exchange programme for pension funds. I think it was a misunderstanding,” he is quoted by myjoyonline.com
In his view, nothing has changed from the past arrangements made with organized labor to exempt pension funds from the DDEP.
“We reached an agreement with organised labour association that pension funds were exempted. That has not changed,” he added.
For the annual IMF/World Bank spring meetings, the finance minister and other members of the economic management team are now in Washington, D.C.
The team is anticipated to give Ghana’s current request for a $3 billion loan from the IMF one last push.
