Nelson Rolihlahla “Madiba” Mandela is arguably one of the most famous president there ever was in the world.
He is known for being an ANC (African National Congress) revolutionary who fought against the apartheid regime.
Mandela is also respected for wanting peace instead of war between black and white people of South Africa, even though he had spent almost three decades (27 years) in Robben Island.
Madiba was born on the 18th of July,1918 and passed away at age 95 in 2013. He served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. and was SA’s first black president of the country after both whites and blacks voted together in 1994.
Nelson Mandela is associated with greatness and that’s why people were both shocked and disappointed after seeing his leaked WITS academic record.
One would think this to be a lie, but it’s the truth. In fact in an article from the Wits archives, it is said that Mandela didn’t even graduate from Wits
as he failed all six papers in his first year, failed another four in his second year and failed three exams in his final year.
Luckily for him, he eventually furthered his studies and finished his LLB at The London University in 1989 after 46 years.
We should not mock Nelson Mandela. In fact, this story teaches that persistence is vital when it comes to our dreams. He finished his LLB in almost 5 decades… most people would have given up, but he didn’t because he knew what he wanted to achieve and was determined to achieve it no matter how long it took.
