SHS Students Vacation Durations To Be Reduced In 2020/2021 Academic Year -Education Minister

Report BROADCASTGHANA has convened has it that the Deputy minister of Education who is in charge of Pre-tertiary, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum reveals that students vacations in the 2020/2021 academic year will be reduced to cover lost instructional hours due to COVID-19.

Schools were closed down due to the outbreak of the deadly virus and after some months of toil and hardship, President Akufo Addo directed some levels of schools should resume as the country saw a drastic decline in the virus infections.

Currently, schools have reopened to second-year students in Junior and Senior High Schools to continue with the 2019/2020 academic year and sit for the end of term examination and vacate on December 14, 2020.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in one of his nation’s addresses indicated learners in kindergarten, primary and first-year students in Junior High School and Senior High school would reopen the school in January 2021.

Speaking in an interview with the Kumasi-based Wontumi 101.3 FM, Dr Yaw Adutwum disclosed that students currently at home vacation in the next academic year will be reduced, Georgeweb reported.

This Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe Constituency said is to cover lost instructional hours amid the outbreak of the locally transmitted coronavirus leading to the temporal closure of schools in the country.

“So maybe a two (2) months vacation in the 2020/2021 academic year will be reduced to 1 and a half month or even a month to cover all lost the instructional hours amid the COVID-19 pandemic”.

 

The teaching Minister in the interview confirmed that all students in (kindergarten, primary, first-year Junior and Senior High School) in January 2021 will be promoted to the next level but have their vacations reduced.
