Gradually Ghanaians are gearing themselves towards the 2020 elections. This election will be a historic eighth consecutive national polls since the beginning of the fourth republic in 1992. We are barely two weeks away from making election 2020 a reality.
This particular election comes with very unique circumstances due to the fact, it is the first time the candidate who lost a previous election on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress is seeking to reclaim the presidential seat.
On the other hand, the ruling New Patriotic Party is seeking re-election of their candidate, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo to seal their second consecutive term in office.
Arguably, the top most issues of concern of most Ghanaian electorate that will go a long way to influence the voting behavior of voters and subsequently determine the winner in the forthcoming election include infrastructure projects, health, education, and as usual employment.
In connection with this, the National Commission For Civic Education has conducted a research survey in all the sixteen regions of Ghana to find out the voting behavior of the electorate and the major issues that may shape their electoral choices.
According to the report of the survey conducted, about 70 percent of the respondents testified that they are going to vote the same way they voted in the 2016 election. Granted that, this 2020 presidential will follow the survey report of the NCCE, then we can confidently say that, it doesn’t look good for the National Democratic Congress as they have a huge 1Million vote margin to close.
The study also revealed that the main issues that will determine the electoral preferences of voters come December 7 will be in the area of health, education, and employment. But notwithstanding, any battle between these two political giants is never a cool chop for any of them.
One in her weakest moment is strong enough to conquer the strongest. Let’s pray for a peaceful, transparent, and fair election
