JUST IN: Kennedy Agyapong Gifts Anas GH₵50k After Winning Defamation Case Against Him – See Full Details

An Accra High Court Wednesday, March 15, 2023 dismissed a GH₵25 million defamation suit against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong brought before it by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas sued the Assin Central MP for defaming him with a counter documentary he aired after Anas’ “Number 12” dubbed “Who watches the watchman.”

The judge, Justice Eric Baah, after holding that Anas failed to prove that Ken Agyapong defamed him said the MP’s documentary exposed shady deals that Anas and his associates were involved in.

The court after concluding that what Anas is engaged in is not investigative journalism but rather investigative terrorism and that Mr. Agyapong was justified to call him “a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist, and evil” awarded the MP GH₵50,000.00 damages.

But during his interaction with the media after the ruling, Kennedy Agyapong said he was not interested in the ₵50,000.00 damages awarded him by the court.

“I tell you today, the 50,000 I don’t need it. I give it to him but he should live with his conscience,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Assin Central lawmaker dedicated his victory to the former GFA boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, and demanded an apology from Anas since the GH₵50k damages alone isn’t enough.

“All I’ll say is, the victory is especially for Kwesi Nyantakyi and the gentleman here. What they have gone through, Anas’ humiliation in this country, no citizen of this country should go through like that.

“Compensation is not enough, he should apologise to us victims and today I say to Ghanaians that we have to be bold to speak the truth in this country,” he said.
