Cracks Deepen In NPP: We Will Show NPP in 2024; Former NPP Chairman Warns His Party -Released More Details
Mr. Akwasi Nti, the former chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Fomena seat, has threatened to boycott the organization if it does not designate the region as an orphan seat for an open election.
The former NPP executive further disclosed that the current state of affairs in the district is worse than it was in the 2020 elections, when Hon. Andrew Assiamah Amoako, the only independent candidate, ran.
“This time, Fomena is going to be worse than what happened under Mr. Andrew Assiamah Amoako’s independent candidature. If we decide to play the party wicked, we won’t vote skirt and blouse but rather we are going to vote against the party in both presidential and parliamentary elections.” He threatened on Kumasi-based Angel FM, according to MyNewsGH.com’s report.
“I bet you, you’ll be marveled at what is going to happen in the constituency”, he reiterated
In a previous announcement, the National Executive Council of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) prohibited Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from running against NPP Members of Parliament in the 2024 elections on the same platform.
This party decision had an impact on the national, regional, and constituency executives as well.
The NPP claims that the decision to prohibit the MMDCEs was made to end rivalry between the incumbent MPs and the MMDCEs as well as other issues that might develop during the party’s primary in various regions across the nation.
Speaking on Angel FM, Mr. Akwasi Nti argued, however, that the NPP did not include his district among the orphan districts where MMDCEs can challenge an incumbent MP.
He claimed that because Mr. Andrews Asiamah did not run for office with the NPP, the Fomena Constituency is still without representation, and that it is up to them whether or not to follow the party’s rules.
“Fomena is an orphan constituency but they didn’t mention it. The MP is an independent candidate. I bet you are going to marvel at what is going to happen in the constituency. You can make your laws but you can’t force people to obey them”, Mr Akwasi Nti said.
