The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kobina Ade Coker says choosing a female running mate is not enough for the party to win power in the December elections.

“That’s not enough, you have to do a lot of work as well. Just nominating a female running mate does not mean you’ve won the elections”, he told an Accra based radio station.

“But look at the qualities, she [Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang] is a fine scholar, she is a former Education Minister, on the national scale she is well known. She has occupied a lot of high profile offices in the international environment. When you talk of gender, she also has the qualities of friendliness and a role model”, he stressed.

He added that all party members and sympathizers must support her to pull a lot of votes for the NDC.

“So what we need is to ensure the qualities are enhanced to help the NDC win power in the December elections. I think she’s got something to offer; like I said it is the qualities and her experience that will also help the party to win the December elections “, the former football administrator said.

On whether the choice of the flagbearer [John Mahama] is his choice, Mr Coker said “I will support the candidate that the flagbearer chooses to nominate because he is going to work with the person and so his choice should be everybody’s choice. The preference of the flagbearer is important”

He added that the feeling at the grassroots is very high saying “as far as information I’m getting from the grassroots all of us are ready to go to the trenches.”

Mr Mahama yesterday announced Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the December presidential elections.
