Residents of Nkoranza in the Bono East Region were plunged into a state of shock on Friday as they mourned the tragic death of Kofi Gyan, a native of the area.

Kofi Gyan, who worked at the Jubilee House and was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Initiators of Change Group of Companies and Initiators of Change Foundation, lost his life in a ghastly accident while en route from Accra to Nkoranza to bury and perform the final funeral rites for his late mother.

Just hours before his untimely demise, Kofi Gyan had shared his mission on his Facebook wall, informing his friends and followers about his intention to lay his mother, Obaapanyin Adwoa Ampomaah, to rest. Tragically, his journey ended in disaster on the Accra to Kumasi highway at Enyiresi in the Eastern region, where he lost control of his Hyundai Sonata car with registration number GS 7776-19.

Eyewitness reports indicate that Kofi Gyan attempted to avoid a head-on collision with a sprinter bus that was engaged in wrongful overtaking, resulting in him losing control of his vehicle.

The Hyundai Sonata somersaulted and plunged into a nearby river, claiming the lives of Kofi Gyan and two of his nieces who were also traveling with him.

The devastating incident has prompted calls for the Ghana Police Service to locate and prosecute the driver of the Sprinter Bus, as his reckless actions are believed to have caused the accident.

The news of Kofi Gyan’s tragic demise has left family members, residents, and social media users overwhelmed with grief. Hundreds of well-wishers, friends, and family were expected to join Kofi Gyan in laying his mother to rest on Saturday, May 20, 2023, but instead, they find themselves mourning the loss of a beloved son, brother, and friend.
