Villarreal have confirmed Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey's signing while addressing ongoing legal proceedings against the player in England.

The Spanish club emphasized their "respect for the fundamental principle of presumption of innocence" but stated they cannot comment further due to UK legal restrictions.

The 32-year-old, who joins from Arsenal, faces five rape charges and one sexual assault charge relating to alleged incidents between 2021-2022 in London.

Partey, who appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court last Tuesday, maintains his innocence according to lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, who said he "welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name."

Villarreal's statement highlighted Partey's football credentials, describing him as "a complete midfielder with great stamina" who won trophies with Atlético Madrid and Arsenal.

The club simultaneously reinforced its "strong commitment to respect and diversity," condemning "any act of violence in all its forms."

Partey remains free under bail conditions prohibiting contact with the three women involved and requiring travel notifications.

His next court appearance is scheduled for September 2 at the Old Bailey.
