Swedish Superettan newcomers Umeå FC have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Yiriyon Gideon after the 18-year-old was granted his work permit.

Gideon, who joined the club’s training camp on July 13, 2025, impressed during trials and has now been cleared to feature in Sunday’s crucial league clash against Trelleborg.

The highly-rated youngster caught the attention of the Umeå Energi Arena outfit with his standout performances in training sessions and a practice match against Sandviken.

His displays convinced the coaching staff to offer him a deal, with the contract details undisclosed.

Announcing the development, the club stated: “Today, Friday, the decision came from the Migration Board that Yiriyon Gideon will be granted a work permit, which means he is ready to play for the important match against Trelleborg on Sunday.”

Swedish international Adam Chennoufi praised the teenager’s quality, saying: “Gideon has proven his skills in the training match against Sandviken and during the weeks he has been training with us. He is an energetic, hard-working and skillful central midfielder.”
