Former Ghana international Alfred Duncan has shed light on his shocking decision to retire from the Black Stars in 2019, citing a lack of respect from the national team setup as the primary motivator.

In an exclusive interview with Sporty FM, Duncan disclosed that he felt disrespected and undervalued by the team's hierarchy, leading him to step away from international duty at the peak of his career.

"I wasn't getting the respect I think I deserved," Duncan stated, highlighting the key factor behind his premature retirement.

"For a player like me, when I got to the peak of my career, I thought I deserved more respect, which I wasn't getting enough."

Duncan's decision to retire from international football came as a surprise to many, given his impressive career in Italy with top-tier clubs like Inter Milan, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, and Venezia.

Despite his early exit, Duncan remains one of Ghana's most accomplished midfielders in European football.
